Police on Monday foiled the protest march of Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA) and detained co-chairman Farooq Ahmed Dar along with half a dozen members who tried to march towards governor House in Srinagar.

The protest march was called to protests against the proposed abrogation of Article 35Ain Jammu and Kashmir.

Holding placards and shouting slogans, the businessmen and traders led by Farooq Ahmad  Dar assembled at Srinagar’s press enclave to lodge their protest after holding a sit-in at Press colony Srinagar.

As soon as the protesters tried to march towards governor House, police intercepted and detained them.

Talking to reporters Kashmir Economic Alliance co-chairman Farooq Ahmed Dar called for hoisting black flags over all the residential houses, commercial establishments like shops and important landmarks and squares on Hearing date in Supreme Court on Article 35A i.e. August 29.

Farooq Ahmad Dar, said: “Our amalgam has called protest march from Press Enclave to High court on  August 29 to lodge protest against the attempts to abrogate Article 35-A and we will submit memorandum to chief Justice of High court on the issue”.

KEA proposed Kashmir Bandh on the same day. Dar said, “We appeal political, religious and trade bodies besides civil society to consider our proposal of complete bandh on same day.”

Dar blamed that the government is “implementing agenda of the RSS” as they are hell bent to do away with Article 370 which gives JK special status.

“The wound inflicted on the state’s autonomy through extension of GST is still fresh as another new machination has been launched to question the validity of Article 35A now, he said
