Article 370 Can Be Restored, Will Keep the Issue Alive: Omar

SRINAGAR: Responding to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, National Conference (NC) Vice President Omar Abdullah on Sunday blamed the current regime for the resurgence of militancy in the Jammu region, stating that it has completely failed in combating the issue.

“During my six-year tenure, the graph of militancy was declining every year, but over the last five years, it has been rising year by year,” Omar said.

Responding to Shah’s statement that the NC-Congress alliance would bring militancy back to Jammu and Kashmir, Omar argued that the current regime has, in fact, rekindled militancy in Jammu, with militancy now present in every district.

“If anyone has failed to fight militancy, it is the present government. The next NC-Congress government will improve the situation,” Omar stated.

Omar also highlighted that the NC has made significant sacrifices in the fight against militancy, adding, “I feel sorry when the Union Home Minister makes such statements.”

On the issue of restoring Article 370, Omar said, “When it was revoked, the Supreme Court changed three of its previous verdicts. How can you assume the latest verdict cannot be reversed? While we cannot guarantee its restoration tomorrow or even in this Assembly, we will keep the issue alive, just as the BJP kept it alive for 20-25 years.” —(KNO)
