Jammu SRINAGAR: Senior IAS officer Arun Kumar Mehta has been today appointed as the new Chief Secretary of J&K. Mehta a resident of Bihar qualified the prestigious civil service examination in the year 1988 and was subsequently allotted the J&K cadre succeeded BVR Subrahmanyam who served as the Chief Secretary of J&K for a period of nearly three years.

Pertinent to being appointed as the 31st Chief Secretary of J&K, Arun Kumar Mehta served as the Financial Commissioner in J&K government’s finance department

A letter issued by the Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla to LG Manoj Sinha reads,

“The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), vide its order dated 27.05.2021, has approved the appointment of Shri B.V.R. Subrahmanyam, IAS (CG: 1987), Chief Secretary, Jammu & Kashmir (J&K), as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Department of Commerce, Government of India. The ACC has also approved his appointment as Secretary, Department of Commerce, upon the superannuation of the present incumbent on 30.06.2021.

Pursuant to the aforesaid order, it has been decided with the approval of the Competent Authority that Shri Arun Kumar Mehta, IAS (AGMUT: 1988) will take over as Chief Secretary, J&K from the date that Shri B.V.R. Subrahmanyam relinquishes the charge, and until further orders.”

3. Orders to this effect may be issued by the Government of Jammu & Kashmir.

BJP President of J&K Ravinder Raina Raina in a tweet wrote,

“Heartiest Congratulations & best wishes to Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta Ji on being appointed as Chief Secretary of J&K UT”
