SRINAGAR: Despite the recent military confrontation between two neighbours, the Asia Cup 2025 is set to begin on September 5, with India taking on Pakistan on September 7.
Six teams will participate in the competition comprising India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and the UAE.
The tournament will follow a group stage and super fours format, which means India and Pakistan are expected to face each other at least twice. Their second encounter will likely happen on September 14.
While India is the official host, the tournament will be held in the UAE. As per the Times of India report, the Indian government is close to granting clearance for the event, amid earlier concerns due to ongoing cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan.
It’s pertinent to mention that following the brutal terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Kashmir, border tensions arose between the two nations, which eventually led to the boycott calls for the Pakistani artists and actors in India including sports activities.
