SRINAGAR: Prominent lawyer, Asim Hashmi has won from Gundna territorial constituency. He defeated BJP’s former minister and Vice President Shakti Parihar, who was contesting from two seats in the Chenab valley district.
Hashmi was contesting on PAGD mandate for the National Conference. Hashmi won with a margin of 1336 votes. He had polled 7835 votes and Parihar had polled 6499 votes.
With Hashmi‘s win, the region has got a brand new political worker who had earlier joined politics and abandoned it too quickly.
The final results suggest that BJP has eventually taken a majority of eight berths and Congress four leaving a seat each for NC and an independent. What makes the election interesting is that BJP top leader Shakti Raj Pariharhas lost from both the territorial berths. He was defeated by Asim from Gundna seat and by Mushtaq Ahmad in Marmat. Parihar was a former minister and is party’s Vice Presidnet.
