Investigation officer Tuesday didn’t appear before Principal District and Session court to record statement due to unknown reasons, in Asrar Mushtaq Murder case.

According to police the killing of Asrar, which had brought Kashmir valley to a standstill for three days after his body was recovered from Rainawari area on July 8, 2009, there was a verbal dual between the deceased and the accused Imran, a student himself, over a girl.

On July 15, 2009, the police had claimed to have solved the murder case of Asrar. The probe into the killing was conducted by the then Inspector General of Police Kashmir B Srinivasan, then DIG Muneer Khan and then SSP Syed Afadul Mujtaba.

Asrar’s friend Imran, who was arrested had allegedly told the police during interrogation that Asrar had been making advances towards his girlfriend.

“We have cracked the case and have arrested two youth who have confessed their crime during interrogation,” the then senior superintendent of police, Ahfadul Mujtaba had told a news conference here.

He had identified the arrested youth as Imran Aslam Baba son of Muhammad Aslam Baba of Green Avenue, Illahi Bagh and Asim Ali of Central Avenue, Illahi Bagh, “One of them, Imran, killed his friend Asrar at his residence in Illahi Bagh and he has confessed it,” he had told the media persons.

The police had said that the motive behind the crime was “jealously in a love tangle”. He had informed that Asrar had developed relationship with a girl on internet who also happened to be Imran’s friend.

The court had also recorded averments made by a girl from New Delhi in Asrar Mushtaq murder case.

The girl from New Delhi who is now a prosecution witness in the matter had accepted a friend request made by 19-year-old Asrar prior to his murder in July 2009.
