While condemning the alleged police assault on incumbent legislator Engineer Rasheed in South Kashmir, senior CPI(M) leader Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami Monday urged the Speaker Legislative Assembly Kavinder Gupta to take strong note of the incident and initiate proceedings against the erring policemen for such a “shameful act”.
“Not speaking of common men, a legislator has become the victim of the police brutality. There are some elements in the police department that are hell-bent to bring disrepute to the whole Police Institution. Such elements need to be identified and punished under law,” Tarigami said.
“We may have political difference but this is not the way to treat a legislator like this. This thrashing incident depicts the police hooliganism and is a direct attack on the democracy,” he said.
