Castigating those who have been using pulpits of Masjids against New Industrial Policy and KP Townships, Chief Minister Ms Mehbooba Muti on Wednesday said that she was saddened to “see this situation”.

Revealing that “she too was from same (clergy) line”, the CM said, “My Naana Ji was a cleric.”

Expressing happiness that Muslims of Kashmir are hosting their Pandit brethren, Ms Mufti said, “a Pandit lived at Kellar named as Dina Nath. He was an MLC. When he died, my Naana Ji took firewood for his pyre on his own shoulders.” She termed it the “real Kashmiriyat”.

Asserting that KPs would be brought back, she said asked Opposition not to resort to dual policy on this issue.

“When you (Opposition Lawmakers) can fight for your block president’s security, why not to keep KPs in Townships,” she asked Opposition benches.

She sought support of Opposition in return of KPs. “We will have to do it together; we will fight in elections but come help us to bring KPs back.”

She believes it was “necessary to do that”. “Otherwise, yahan aek hi qasim kay phool khilain gay.” “Our identity will be affected.”

Ms Mehboob rued that students don’t know “who KPs are”.

Maintaining that Kashmir witnessed divisions and sub-divisions in religion itself, she said, “why don’t Clerics raise issue of common day molestation cases.” “Because in Handwara case a uniformed person is involved, clerics have made it a point to raise it in every sermon.”

She said there was no difference whether it be a uniformed or civilian, because “molestation was molestation”.

Observing that Dal was dying and Srinagar bore its brunt, the CM said, “why can’t clerics give sermons as how to save this precious water body.”

“It is ironic that they are talking about Article 370, New Industrial Policy and Handwara Case,” she added. “Let them raise issues of Hospitals and roads as well.”

She further said that Article 370 has remained a “cosmetic structure only”. “We have destroyed our land; Roshni Act was brought and implemented but state lost land. We were supposed to fetch Rs 25k Cr but could manage only Rs 77 crore.”

She said, “Our land is gone; what is with us? Environment/ climate/ land/ we need to steps and save them all.”

Observing that Article 370 “is virasat of J&K”, she said, ‘nobody can dare challenge it and nothing is going to happen to it.”
