Stating that Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir would be held only after new delimitation of constituencies, BHP General Secretary (Org) Ashok Koul Sunday said the decision to release mainstream political leaders in Kashmir will be taken at an “appropriate time.”

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the party convention in Town Hall Achabal in Anantnag, he said, “Assembly elections in J&K would be held but before that delimitation is a must. The BJP has been demanding the constitution of new delimitation commission without any delay.”

“In the new delimitation, J&K would get nine more assembly seats due to which people will get more representatives to choose,” Koul said.

On the release of political leaders, including three former chief ministers, who were detained after August 5, the BJP leader said, “As of now no decision has been taken in this regard. However, any final decision in the regard will be taken only after taking the prevailing situation into consideration.”

“In my opinion, a committee should be formed which would take a decision to release political leaders. And for this the local administration can take a decision at an appropriate time,” Koul said.

On Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the BJP leader said, “Though violence has erupted in several parts of the country over the issue, situation in Kashmir has remained peaceful which shows that people of the Valley have fully understood the BJP’s agenda. People in Kashmir not protesting against the revocation of Article 370 and CAA is a guarantee to peace and for which they need to be saluted.”

While terming corruption as cancer, Koul said the BJP is determined to eradicate this menace from the society. “Any officer or employee found involved in corruption will be taken to task under law as BJP’s agenda is clean administration and corruption-free government. On this issue, there will be no compromise,” he asserted. (KNS)
