Pricking the government claim over “good health care facilities”, a lawmaker on Tuesday said that a man died in his area “only because of medical negligence”.

Speaking during zero hour in lower house, Ganderbal’s National Conference lawmaker, Sheikh Ishfaq Jabbar, informed the house that one Mushtaq Ahmad Sofi, s/o Gh Ahmad Sofi, a resident of Daderhama Ganderbal fell ill recently.

“He was taken to Ganderbal hospital where he was administered pain killer injection and was sent home,” Jabbar said, “but just after some hours, he was again taken to the same hospital where he was again administered the same medicine.”

A father of three, Mushtaq Ahmad was sent home. “When his condition deteriorated, his family rushed him to a Srinagar hospital where doctors after his check-up said that Mushtaq had suffered heart attack twice.”

Mushtaq died in the hospital, Ishfaq said.

Seeking enquiry in to the incident, the lawmaker said, “the doctors at Ganderbal hospital couldn’t diagnose what the actual problem was.” “We can’t stop death but it is a clear case of medical negligence,” he said.

Speaker Kavinder Gupta responded that the health minister, who is not in the house, will be replying to the question.
