As soon as the business resumed in the lower house of J&K Legislature, Opposition lawmakers stood from their seats and demanded clarification from PDP-BJP Government over the statement of Sadhvi Prachi’s “Muslim Mukt Bharat” statement.

Leading the frontal attack on the government, Communist Lawmaker, M Y Tarigami asked government to clear its stand. “India belongs to everyone,” he told the Speaker.

Notably, Sadhvi Prachi while addressing an election rally in Uttar Pradesh had said, “time has come to make India Muslim free.”

National Conference, Congress members joined by Er Rasheed and Hakeem Yasin, the lawmakers condemned the statement of Prachi.

Responding to the concerns of Opposition lawmakers, Dy CM and BJP senior member, Dr Nirmal Singh, said, “India is a secular state; people from every community live here.”

He confirmed that such a statement attributed to Sadhvi Prachi has come in the press, however, “its authenticity of the content is not verified yet”.

This did not satisfy the Opposition lawmakers who wanted condemnation of the “communal statement” from the government. “If the statement is true then it is wrong,” Dr Singh added.

Notably, on Wednesday, Government Spokesperson, Naeem Akhtar, in upper house had condemned the statement saying, “India belongs to everyone. Koi bhi Sadhvi ho, statements like this are condemnable.”

NC’s Dr Shehnaz Ganaie had raised the issue which was supported by Sajad A Kichloo.
