Sugar-Politics

Jammu and Kashmir Government on Wednesday had to face a humiliating situation when Opposition lawmakers confronted CAPD Minister for lack of Sugar in Kashmir region during Holy month of Ramzan.

National Conference’s Ab Majid Larmi and Altaf Kaloo stood up from their seats and asked the CAPD minister to issue a statement detailing the quantity of sugar available constituency wise.

Responding to the question, CAPD Minister, Ch Zulfikar said, “the statement I issued yesterday about availability of sugar has been misinterpreted by some newspapers today. Sugar is available across Kashmir.”

To this, NC’s A M Sagar said, “sugar is unavailable in Kashmir. You are lying now.”

The Opposition lawmakers alleged that six thousand six hundred quintals of sugar was available in Jammu region and Kashmir was facing acute shortage. “This is wrong,” CAPD minister said.

The Minister’s reply didn’t satisfy the protesting members forcing Larmi to walk into the Well. “Issue a statement and tell this house the quantity of Sugar available in all constituencies,” Larmi told Speaker.

As Marshals were alerted, NC’s other lawmakers stood and thus started squabbling between BJP lawmakers and Opposition benches. “ye Kashmir sirf aap ka nai hai,” one BJP lawmaker told NC’s Altaf Kaloo who was demanding break up of availability of sugar in Kashmir.

More so, the members wanted government to issue a statement on the damages caused due to heavy windstorm on Tuesday evening in Kashmir parts. A lady died in the mayhem created by the storm.

Minister for Revenue and Relief, Basharat Bukhari told the hose that deputy commissioners concerned have been asked to file a report about the damages. “Once the report is received, I shall be informing the house and relief thereof,’ he said.
