SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday said he had not witnessed any protests marking the seventh anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370, while reiterating that the administration was working to provide government employment to all eligible families of victims of terrorist violence.
Sinha made the remarks while speaking to reporters after distributing government appointment letters to the next of kin of civilians killed in terror attacks. He said several affected families had been waiting for years for appointments despite provisions allowing compassionate employment.
Asked about reports of demonstrations being held at different locations on August 5, Sinha said he had not seen any such protests.
“I haven’t seen any. If I do, I’ll speak to you about them,” he said.
On the appointment initiative, the Lieutenant Governor said the government was working to ensure that other eligible families affected by terrorist violence also received similar employment support.
Sinha also described August 5 as a day of “historic significance”, saying the changes made on that date marked the end of what he termed a “discriminatory system”.
