SRINAGAR: The district administration in Kupwara has issued an order to ban the operation of unregistered media persons.

“It has been noticed that there are a number of unauthorized, unregistered media persons who are involved in the misuse of the social media platforms by way of circulating fake and baseless news items for their own interests, which has become a nuisance for the general public and district administration as well and needs to be verified and regulated as per relevant provisions of the law governing the subject,” the order issued by District Development Commissioner (DDC) Kupwara to Senior Superintendents of Police in Kupwara and Handwara reads.

“It is requested that all unauthorized, unregistered media persons have refrained from any media coverage until they complete their registration or obtain approval from the concerned regulatory authority,” the letter reads.

The order further adds: “It has been noticed that there are a number of unauthorized, unregistered media persons who are involved in the misuse of the social media platforms by way of circulating fake and baseless news items for their own interests.”

The District Information Officer (DIO) Kupwara also issued a 12 column format asking the media persons working in the district to share personal and professional details.

According to format, the details include name, parentage, address, contact number, qualification, media organisation one is working for with the registration details of the organization and whether the person has a Mass Communication and Journalism degree, details of the salary of the last three months, the number of the Identity Card issued by the organisation they are working with.

They have also been asked to share details of the social media accounts they are using and whether they are accredited or not.
