SRINAGAR: The auto-rickshaw drivers from various parts of Srinagar held a protest on Monday against the “haphazard movement” of e-rickshaws in the city. They urged the RTO Kashmir to allocate proper routes for them.
According to the news agency KNO, the protesting auto-rickshaw drivers chanted slogans demanding “justice.”
“Our auto-rickshaws have been operating on Srinagar’s streets since 1975. However, in the last one and a half years, since the introduction of e-rickshaws, we have faced significant challenges,” they stated.
“At the beginning, the number of these e-rickshaws was very small, and the authorities had mentioned that they would only operate on routes with limited bus and other connectivity services. But now, they are present everywhere, causing inconvenience to us,” expressed the auto-rickshaw drivers.
“These e-rickshaws are even competing for our passengers, and we feel powerless,” they further added. “We appeal to the authorities to address this issue and provide us with route permits.” (KNO)
