SRINAGAR: A massive snow avalanche struck the Sonamarg in Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday amid heavy snowfall in the region.
According to initial reports, the avalanche occurred near the stretch where the Inter Mountain Sonamarg and Sonamarg Inn hotels are located, with some impact reported in the surrounding area. However, no casualties or injuries have been reported so far.
The area has been receiving heavy snowfall for the past day, which is believed to have contributed to the avalanche. CCTV footage showing the avalanche has been circulating widely on social media.
Meanwhile, MLA Kangan Mian Mehar Ali confirmed the avalanche in the area, but he also said there is no casualty reported.
Police confirmed the incident, saying the avalanche hit the truck yard near the toll post. There are some guest houses which were vacant; no loss of life is reported. The situation is being assessed.
