SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday said the reported stone-pelting incident at a mosque in the Pehroo area of Sherbagh in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district was under investigation and urged people not to give it a communal colour or circulate unverified information.
According to officials, a group of people allegedly hurled stones at the mosque on Sunday evening while worshippers were offering prayers inside. The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated.
In a statement, police said legal action was being taken in accordance with the law and appealed to people to maintain peace, communal harmony and brotherhood.
Police also advised the public against making monetary donations to anyone in connection with the incident and urged people to allow the investigation to proceed without hindrance.
The police appeal came amid concerns over the circulation of unverified information and the possibility of the incident being given a communal colour.
