A top police officer Wednesday facilitated the release of few scribes who had been “thrashed” and forced by CRPF to brave the stones coming from the protesters in Goripora hamlet in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Shortly after the exchange of fire at Wandakhpora area, few scribes had gone there to cover the event, however, due to massive stone-pelting and firing they got trapped in a house. “After a brief lull, when we tried to escape from the scene, we were stopped by CRPF at Goripora where heavy stone-pelting was going on,” a scribe said, “we were thrashed by CRPF who forced us to act as shield. We saved ourselves from every stone coming from the protesters. Sensing trouble, we called SP Pulwama Rayees Ahmed Bhat who facilitated our release,” a scribe told CNS.

Meanwhile, scores of youth Wednesday attacked a police bus with stones leaving many cops wounded in South Kashmir’s Kakapora area of Pulwama district.

Eyewitnesses said that the police bus jam packed with cops came under heavy attack near Kakapora as scores of youth hit it from right left centre with stones. “Several cops were injured in the attack while in a bid to save themselves from the wrath of the stone-pleters police resorted to aerial firing that created panic in the area.”

The clashes between police and youth disrupted normal life in Kakapora, while shopkeepers downed their shutters and vehicular movement on the roads came to a halt. Confirming the incident a police official said that they have identified the ‘miscreants’ and action will be initiated against them. “The police bus was on way to encounter site when it came under attack,” he said.
