Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday said the three militants killed in a gunfight with the government forces in in Rajpora area of Awantipora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district were affiliated with Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind.

A police spokesman in a statement said that the slain militants have been identified as Naveed Tak, Hamid Lone aka Hamid Lelhari and Junaid Bhat.

He said that on a credible input, a cordon and search operation was launched jointly by police and security forces in Rajpora area of Awantipora.

He said that during the search operation, the hiding militants fired on the search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter.

“In the ensuing encounter, three militants were killed and the bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter,” said the spokesman.

“Incriminating material including arms & ammunition was recovered from the site of encounter,” he said.

“Citizens are requested not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials if any,” said police spokesman in a statement.
