SRINAGAR: In major desertion, Altaf Bukhari-led Jammu Kashmir Apni Party lost 12 of its second-line senior workers to Ghulam Nabi Azad’s yet-to-launch political party. The activists quit the party within less than 12 hours after Bukhari made a fierce speech against Azad’s resignation from Congress and his agenda.

“We the following members and office bears of Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party are submitting our resignation to the party President Altaf Bukhari and intend to frame a new party in consultation with Ghulam Nabi Azad,” the resignation letter reads. Most of these members are from the Doda region, Azad’s home district.

The members who have signed the letter include Asgar Hussain Khanday (District President), Verinder Kumar Sharma (District Gen Secy), Promila Sharma (District Vice President Mahila Morcha), Mushtaq Ahmed Hajam (Block President Thathri), Javed Iqbal Butt (Senior Vice President Block Thathri), Ghulam Haider (Block Vice President), Javed Ahmed (Block Secy), Ghulam Hussain Zargar (Gen Secy Block Thathri), Ashiq Hussain Butt (Secretary Apni Party), Nisar Ahmed Zargar (Member Panchayat and Block Secy Apni), Abdul Kabir (Member Panchayat Thathri A & Jt Secy), and Mohammad Ashraf (Member Panchayat Thathri A).

Azad is reported to be launching his still-unnamed party early next month.
