The students of B.Ed colleges staged protests outside press enclave Saturday demanding one time relaxation after government changed the duration of B.Ed course from one to two years recently.

Students carried placards and shouted slogans against the authorities. They alleged students had already studied for about six months covering almost 60 percent of syllabus. “We are not against making it a two year course per se,” said one of the protesters. “We just demand to give us a onetime relaxation. Many of our colleagues come from far off areas like Gurez and Drass,” they said.

Terming the move as unjust, the student said that these students can’t afford to pay fees as hefty as Rs 35000 for the mid-sessional inclusion of new syllabus.
