Protests erupted in South Srinagar on Friday afternoon when Srinagar based 15 Corps tried to “grab” public Park in Batwara area.

Reports said that a large number of locals came out on roads against the move. “The common concrete wall has been dismantled by army,” locals said, “the army is trying to cover the park space now.”

Chanting anti-army slogans, the protestors demanded action against the accused officials. “They have dumped sand, and bricks inside the park and they want to construct a new wall which will bring the park inside the cantonment area,” they said.

“Our children used to play inside the park but now army is illegally encroaching upon it,” they said.

“People are protesting against reports of army encroaching upon the public park in Batwara,” a police official from Ram Munshi Bagh told Kashmir Life.
