SRINAGAR: While a court in Bandipora granted bail to journalist Sajad Gul, police again arrested the youngster in another case.

NDTV reported that the police have booked the journalist under Public Safety Act and shifted him to Kot Balwal in Jammu.

According to his family, Gul was detained in a raid on January 5 and was later handed over to the police.

A court in Bandipora district on Saturday granted him bail and ordered his release. However, instead of releasing him, the authorities said that another FIR has been registered against Sajad Gul for attempted murder and he is now arrested in connection with that case.

Quoting Sajad Gul’s lawyer, Umair Ronga, reports said that when the release orders reached Hajan police station, the family members were told that the journalist would not be released due to another FIR.

A police statement released in the aftermath of his arrest mentions the videos posted on January 3. According to the police statement issued this week, Gul was trying to incite disaffection against the government and security forces by “spreading disinformation/ false narratives”.

“The Jammu and Kashmir administration has detained a journalist, Sajad Gul, under the Public Safety Act, a day after a court granted him bail in connection with a police case that accused him of criminal conspiracy,” NDTV reported around midnight. “His overall activities are prejudicial to the sovereignty, integrity and unity of India,” the TV channel quoted police saying on its website.
