A government school in district Ganderbal district is awaiting its upgradation from middle school to High School level for more than five decades.

Government boys middle school Bakura, one of the oldest educational institutions in the district, was established as a primary school in 1953, said residents.

“Though the school was upgraded from primary school to middle  School level in April 2003, it has not been upgraded to high school level so far,” Muhammad Yousuf, a local resident said.

As per the locals, one boy’s high school is at Shuhama Alusteng, but there is no girls high school in the vicinity, the nearest girls high school is at Pandach area which is 10 km away from Bakura.

The villagers said that the village is populated with more than 2000 residents is devoid of high school and they have been demanding for the upgradation of the school since long time various students drop out after 8th standards because of this problem.

They said that a large number of students are not able to continue the education after the 8th class especially the female students because of the lack of facilities of schooling in the vicinity.

“We appeal the education minister Syed Altaf Bukhari to look at our genuine demand,” a group of girls students said.

Mushtaq Ahmad war the village head said “we have visited the MLA Ganderbal in February 2018 for up-gradation of the school, he wrote a letter to the chief Education officer Ganderbal and recommended for the upgradation of school as there was no girls high school in the area but till date no order has been issued for upgradation of school.

Talking to Kashmir Life Chief Education Officer CEO Ganderbal said that the MLA has sent us the recommendation letter and the case for the upgradation of school is under process.
