Jammu and Kashmir Government has said that there is no proposal as of now to consider lifting of ban on local channels in Kashmir on the telecast of news bulletin.

In a written reply to the question raised by MLA Langate Enigneer Rashid, Minister-in-Charge Home informed the Legislative Assembly that the telecast of some private TV News Channels were found to violate the Cable Television Network (Regulation) Act, 1995, therefore, has been stopped for the time being. The government however, said that there is no ban on telecast of recreational or entertainment programmes by these channels.

As per a local news agency, CNS, State Government has banned the transmission of all local television channels in 2010, after the summer agitation. These channels according to the government had been giving wide coverage to the ‘provocative speeches and activities of secessionist elements’ for creating law and order problems.
