SRINAGAR: The administration in the Bandipora district of North Kashmir is bustling with preparations for the upcoming ‘Chota Amarnath Yatra,’ scheduled to commence on August 31.

Nestled within the dense forests of Arin Valley atop a Himalayan mountain, the Maha Daneshwar temple, also known as ‘Chhota Amarnath,’ houses a naturally formed ice lingam. Gentle water droplets cascade onto this lingam from above. The pilgrimage to this cave takes just a day, accommodating only 7 to 8 individuals due to its narrow interior space.

An official said that the Yatra, covering a 15-kilometer route through Arin-Dardpora area, will wind its way via Shampthan and conclude at the revered Chota Amarnath Cave.

Local residents have expressed their support for the initiative while also underscoring the need for improved infrastructure. “We are excited about the Chota Amarnath Yatra. It’s a welcome step that brings a sense of devotion to our community,” remarked Ghulam Mohammad, a local resident.

However, concerns have been raised about the existing road connectivity and basic amenities along the Yatra route. “While we appreciate the effort, it’s crucial to ensure proper road connectivity and facilities for a more comfortable pilgrimage,” added Gulam Nabi, another resident.

Bashir Ahmad, another local resident, emphasised the profound spiritual significance of the Yatra and expressed gratitude for the efforts being made to ensure its success. “We eagerly anticipate hosting and assisting the pilgrims during their journey,” he added.

The official stated that a comprehensive discussion took place during a meeting, covering crucial aspects of the pilgrimage such as medical facilities, transportation, accommodation, security, and communication amenities.

Security remains a top priority, with the Police Department gearing up to deploy an ample number of personnel to ensure safety and uphold law and order. The communication wing of the Police Department is also ready to provide essential information and support to the pilgrims.

Meanwhile, the administration is working on installing solar lights along the Yatra route to enhance visibility and safety. (KNO)
