SRINAGAR: The Bandipora-Gurez road, which was closed due to heavy snowfall during the winter season, is set to reopen for one-way traffic from March 15, 2023.

The Border Roads Organisation’s 56 Rapid Action Force (RAF) team in Bandipora has completed the snow clearance work, as per the order issued by SDM Gurez.

One-way traffic will be allowed from Bandipora to Gurez and vice versa on alternate days. No vehicle will be permitted without anti-skid chains and overloaded vehicles, such as passenger/load carriers, will not be allowed on the road. Furthermore, no multi-axle vehicles will be permitted until further notice. The cut-off timings for traffic movement from Gurez will be 1:00 PM at TCP Trangbal and from Bandipora at TCP Kanzalwan, the order reads.

Exceptions to the restrictions will be made for vehicles and machinery of the Border Roads Organisation, Mechanical Engineering Department, and ambulances. Additionally, the BRO’s 56 RAF team will keep snow clearance machines and manpower at designated locations. In the event of a forecast for snowfall or rainfall, the road will be closed for all kinds of movement.

The reopening of the Bandipora-Gurez road is a significant development for the people of the area, who have been facing difficulties traveling due to the road’s closure. The restoration of the route will also boost the local economy by facilitating the movement of goods and people between Bandipora and Gurez.

The local authorities have advised drivers to exercise caution while driving on the road, which is prone to landslides and other natural hazards. The reopening of the road will be a major relief for the people of Bandipora and Gurez, who have eagerly awaited its restoration. (KNO)
