Observing complete shut down on second consecutive day, half dozen protestors received injuries during clashes between agitated youth and Police in Baramullah on Thursday against the presence of army camp in old town of and nocturnal arrests in Baramulla.

Things took ugly turn on Thursday morning when people assembled to protest against the nocturnal raids demanding immediate release of arrestees.

The shops, business establishments, petrol stations and educational institutions remained closed while transport was off the roads. To prevent any sort of protests police and CRPF sealed all the important bridges in the town. Large contingents of police and Paramilitary troopers were deployed on roads while concertina wires were laid on roads to restrict the movement

“Police and forces made a nocturnal raid at the house of Asif Gul Kanaspora to arrest. In absence of Gul, police arrested his brother Adil Ahmad. During this nocturnal raid Police arrested Mohammad Shafiq Shugu s/o Ghulam Mohammad of Old Down while police also raided some houses in Azadgunj Baramullah searching for a youth Ramjane. Police after failing to get Ramjane arrested his brother Nayeem Ahmad Karnai”, alleged locals.

They said that family members objecting the arrest of Karnai resisted resulting in heated arguments between family members and police and nearby neighbors also assembled and began to protest against the arrest.

“Within o time dozens of people assembled and raised anti police and anti government slogans. Police resorted to lathi charge resulting in injury to one Mudasir Ahmad who was immediately shifted to District Hospital where doctors referred him to Srinagar Hospital”, eye witnesses told KNS.

When contacted, inspector General of Police A G Mir , said , “ the over all situation in district Baramula remains peaceful”. However he said that four persons where arrests on Wednesday and one person was injured in clashes.

Police used teargas shelling and pepper gun to disperse the protestors. Firdous Ahmad got injured who was referred to Srinagar Hospital by doctors of district hospital. Pertinenty, ‘Nawjawn-i-Milat’ a social organization of the District had given an ultimatum to the government to shift the 46 RR Army Camp located in old town. “We had met District Development Commissioner a month ago in this regard and he had assured us that within a month the army from the camp will be evacuated. Since the deadline passed on Wednesday and the organization called for ten days strike in the District,” a member of the organization told media persons.
