SRINAGAR: In view of the intense rainfall, gusty winds, and potential thunderstorms or cloudbursts forecast by the Meteorological Department, the Baramulla district administration has issued an advisory urging residents, especially those in flood-prone and low-lying areas, to remain cautious and follow safety measures.
The advisory issued by the Additional District Magistrate Baramulla reads, “In view of the weather forecast issued by the Meteorological Department, Jammu and Kashmir, from time to time with regard to intense rainfall, accompanied by gusty winds and occurrence of thunderstorm/cloudburst in various districts of the Kashmir Valley, including Baramulla district.”
It advised all residents, especially those residing near Nallahs, in low-lying, hilly, and flood-prone areas to take necessary precautions. It recommended the following safety measures: People must refrain from venturing near Nallahs, flood-prone/flooded areas. People must keep emergency supplies handy and stay tuned to local weather updates.
The advisory reads that people must remain vigilant and prioritise safety above all else. People must avoid unnecessary travel, especially in areas prone to flooding, and if the travel is a must, they must ensure that they have appropriate rain gear and must drive carefully.
People residing in flood-prone areas, known for waterlogging, may look for a safe location in consultation with local authorities. The general public is advised not to venture close to landslide-prone zones or fast-flowing streams.
