SRINAGAR: The wreath-laying event of the two paramilitary men who were killed a day before in Kreeri militant attack was held in Humhama Budgam on Tuesday.

The event was held at Special Training Camp in Humhama area of Budgam. Besides Advisor to Lieutenant Governor R R Bhatnagar, several top police and CRPF officers were present on the occasion.

On August 17, 2020, two paramilitary troopers and SPO were killed after militants attacked joint Naka party of police and CRPF at Kreeri area in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

The CRPF men lost their lives in the attack were identified as Khurshid and Constable Luvkush hailed from Bihar.

While talking reporters Advisor Bhatnagar said that an attack on the joint party of CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police took place yesterday. The CRPF team responded well and reinforcements from SOG (Special Operations Group) and Army also arrived in which three militants were also killed. We are here to pay tribute to our jawans who laid down their lives, their sacrifice will not go in vain.

Special Director General (DG), CRPF Kashmir, Zulfikar Hassan, meanwhile, said that the forces will keep thwarting militants’ attempts in the region.

“Our operations are still ongoing in all areas, we will keep giving a befitting response to the militants. The CRPF, Indian Army, and Jammu and Kashmir police are in this together,” Hassan said.

Earlier yesterday, LG Manoj Sinha paid tribute to the security personnel who were killed during an encounter with militants in Baramulla district on Monday.

Later, Vijay Kumar, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir had said that top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander Sajjad alias Haider has been killed in Baramulla encounter.

“Top LeT commander Sajjad alias Haider killed in Baramulla encounter. It is a big achievement for police and security forces,” said Kumar.

Three militants had been killed and two AK rifle and three pistols have been seized, said the army in a statement.

They said two army men were also killed during an encounter.
