Peoples’ Conference (PC) leader and District President Baramulla, Asif Lone has lashed out at the government and the local MLA for failing to provide essential infrastructure, machines and attention to the New District Hospital.

“Despite repeated pleas by the people of Baramulla, both the government and the local MLA are completely indifferent towards this vital issue. The Hospital is running without MRI and CT-Scan machines and without any ventilators. Considering the vast area and the huge population that hospital has to cater to, such apathy is criminal and if investigated properly could be traced to the avoidable loss of so many lives,” Lone said in a statement.

He alleged that the local MLA is more inclined in spending money from his Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for non-urgent matters like fencing of graveyards while the Hospital is crying for monetary and policy attention. “The state government seems to have decided to mock at the people of Baramulla by snubbing their basic demands time and again. Even the state Congress Chief had publicly assured of resolving the deficiencies in medical equipment and infrastructure at the New District Hospital Baramulla last year. All assurances – by the government, by various leaders of the incumbent coalition as well those of the local MLA – have turned out to be hollow and fake,” the PC leader claimed.

He reminded the Union Health Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad of his past assurances to convert the Old Hospital in Baramulla into a Mother and Child Hospital under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM). The entire population of Baramulla town is facing hardships due to the desertion of the hospital and Lone reiterated PC’s demand for the hospital’s restoration at the earliest.
