Baramulla Tragedy: All Three Bodies Recovered from River Jhelum

   

SRINAGAR: The body of Haji Mehnaz Rashid Shah, aged 40, from Khanyar, Srinagar, was recovered on Monday morning from River Jhelum near the NHPC canal stretch in Boniyar, Baramulla. With this, the search operation for the Gantmulla drowning incident concluded.

The incident occurred on Sunday when three family members were swept away while trying to rescue two children who had slipped into the river during a picnic. One person was rescued the same day. The bodies of two children—Ahmad Bin Khalid of Hyderpora and another from Narkara, Budgam—were retrieved earlier.

The multi-agency rescue operation continued for over 36 hours and involved SDRF Baramulla, Civil Defence Uri, JK Police, and local volunteers.

SHO Boniyar confirmed the recovery of the final missing body and said that medico-legal formalities were being completed before the body would be handed over to the family. (JKNS)
