The residents of Barzulla area in Srinagar have alleged that their local dispensary is being shifted for “political reasons”.

The allopathic centre of health services, located at Barzulla since 1984, is being shifted to maternity unit at Sanat Nagar. “We were given this centre by Sheikh Abdullah and it caters a large catchment area,” said Ghulam Ahmad, a local while alleging, “They are doing it for one particular doctor, who is a relative of sitting MLA. She resides in Sanat Nagar and that is why they want to provide her all services at her doorstep.”

Another local reiterated that they won’t let them to shift this unit.

But Dr Malik Bashir, chief medical officer (CMO) Srinagar told Kashmir Life over phone, “Yes director health has given orders to shift this centre because he wants to develop it to a maternity unit, where more facilities will be given 24X7 and a larger catchment area will be tackled.”

CMO Srinagar said that the present building has less space and is “not safe”.
