Eminent Kashmiri poet Bashir Bhaderwahi Thursday won the Sahitya Akademi award for 2015 for his Kashmiri critique of Jamis ta Kasheeri Manz Kashir Natia Adabuk Tawareekh.
The award comprising of a plaque and a cheque of Rs 1 lakh will be given to Bhaderwahi along with other winning writers on February 16 next year.
This year, six books of short stories, six poetry books, four novels and two books each of essays, criticism and plays and one of memoirs have won the award.
Bhaderwahi’s award announcement has come at a time when writers are returning their literary awards in protest to “growing intolerance” in India. Two Kashmiri writers have also returned Sahitya Akademi award in protest.
