SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday issued the following statement regarding the killing of BDC chairman saying that today at about 1945 hours Budgam Police received information about a crime incident in Dalwach area of Khag where militants had fired upon a BDC chairman.

A police spokesman in a statement said that senior police officers reached the crime spot and preliminary investigation revealed that militants fired upon a BDC chairman identified as Bopinder Singh son of Deeraj Singh resident of Dalwach Khag due to which he got injured. He was evacuated to a nearby hospital for treatment where he was declared brought dead.

“The said BDC chairman was residing with his family at Aloochi bagh Srinagar. Although he was provided 2 PSOs from DPL Budgam but today he went to his ancestral house without his PSOs and without any information to police about his visit,” said the spokesman.

“Police has registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of the law,” he said.

“Investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the full circumstances of this crime. The area has been cordoned off and search in the area is going on,” said a police spokesman in a statement.
