SRINAGAR: Rajouri Deputy Commissioner and District Panchayat Election Officer Abhishek Sharma has suspended Block Development Officer (BDO) Plangher, Mohtshim Hanief, with immediate effect for poor performance in the ongoing Panchayat Electoral Roll Revision-2026.
Officials said Hanief, who was also serving as Assistant Electoral Registration Officer, had been repeatedly cautioned over the slow pace of revision work through official communications issued on April 10 and April 17.
During special camps held on April 25 and 26, all officers concerned were instructed to ensure at least a 4 percent increase in the electoral roll within the stipulated timeframe.
However, the officer allegedly failed to carry out his responsibilities effectively, leading to delays, incomplete revision of electoral rolls, non-compliance with prescribed guidelines and deadlines, and inadequate monitoring of field staff.
Officials said these shortcomings adversely impacted the credibility and reliability of the electoral roll revision process.
Following the lapses, the officer was placed under suspension pending further inquiry. During the suspension period, he has been attached to the office of the Assistant Commissioner Panchayat, Rajouri , and barred from leaving headquarters without prior approval.
