A man was mauled by a black bear in Taptri forest area of Bhaderwah on Saturday.

Reports said that a man identified as Ramesh Hari Nath (40) of Taptri village was with his sheep and goats for grazing in near forest area when a black bear attacked him.

The locals working in the vicinity chased away the wild animal before shifting the person to district hospital Bhaderwah where from he was shifted to GMC Jammu for further treatment.

Reports said that bear also killed cattle in the village.

The locals said that they are living in fear prefer not to venture outside, because of presence of wild animals.

The residents have appealed to the concerned authorities to look into the matter and capture the bear.
