SRINAGAR: A bear sighting inside the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences premises on Monday evening prompted concern among students and staff, leading the administration to activate safety measures.
Officials said that CCTV footage captured the animal moving within the campus. The Wildlife Department was informed and a response team was dispatched.
The administration, officials said, conducted on-site assessments in the hostel zone and directed security personnel to step up surveillance around residential and less-frequented sections of the campus. “Additional patrolling has been ordered as a precautionary measure.”
Wildlife authorities have placed a bear trap near the hostel area in an attempt to safely capture and relocate the animal, they said, adding that monitoring will continue.
The administration has meanwhile urged students, staff and attendants to stay alert, avoid isolated stretches after dark and report any unusual movement immediately.
Officials said the situation remains under watch and that necessary steps are being taken to ensure safety on campus. (GNS)
