In a bizarre incident, police Thursday intercepted the official car of J&K’s law secretary Mohammad Ahsraf Mir outside his Civil Secretariat office and took him nearby Shaheed Gunj Police Station for unknown reasons.

Sources informed Kashmir Life that police shrugged off the repeated warnings from Mir’s driver that the person in car is law secretary of state. “But police personnel paid no heed and took Mir, along his official vehicle, to the police station,” sources well versed with the development said.

As the news spread in the Civil Secretariat, the said police officer was immediately transferred to the district police headquarter and another police official was attached to the police station, reads an order copy with Kashmir Life.

But many officials posted in Civil Secretariat demanded an immediate inquiry and dismissal of the police officials who took the law secretary to police station for unknown reasons.

“If this can happen to the law secretary of state,” an official working in the Civil Secretariat told Kashmir Life, “then the fate of a common man can only be imagined in Kashmir.” On face of mounting flak, one police official from Shaheed Gunj Police Station said the police was only doing their duty when the episode happened. “There was a CM movement around and we (police) were only doing our duty to maintain security,” he said.

After walking out of the police station, the law secretary straightaway met Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and apprised him about the development.
