Srinagar: Militant outfit Hizbul Mujhadeen has claimed the responsibility of attack on army convoy on Srinagar-Baramulla road in Bemina on Saturday.

Operational Spokesperson Hizbul Mujhadeen Burhan-ud-din told local news agency CNS that the attack was carried out to protest the Indian Prime Minister’s visit to Kashmir.

“The young men of Hizbul Mujhadeen will strike at any time, any place across Jammu and Kashmir in coming days,” he said and added that today’s attack on Army convoy was a gift from Hizb to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

On Saturday panic gripped in Srinagar when militants targeted the last vehicle of the army convoy near JVC Hospital Bemina. Army according to eyewitnesses retaliated, however, militants managed to escape from the spot.

Reports said that at least four soldiers were wounded in the attack and were admitted in the army hospital.

The area was cordoned off after the attack and a combing operation was launched to track down the militants, said an official.
