Chairman APHC and Ameer Mutahida Majlis Ulema, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq during a social reform campaign Monday warned that several social evils like immorality, corruption, extravagance and futile rituals have plagued the Kashmiri society.

While addressing the gathering of local imams and respectable citizens at Nawakadal, Mirwaiz cautioned: “social ills like immorality, drug addiction and liquor consumption are showing an increased trend.”

Mirwaiz emphasized that young generation is the future of Kashmir and it is the duty of society and parents to impart rich and true values to the young generation.

Urging that it’s incumbent on every conscious Kashmiri to get the society rid of social evils, Mirwaiz said that while engaging in freedom struggle, “we cannot afford to turn blind eye to the growing social and moral challenges facing the society.”

To do away with such evils, he advised that “teachings of Islam should be inculcated among people.”
