Dr Farooq Ashai

Students, doctors and Para-Medics of Government Medical College and SMHS Hospital Srinagar Friday paid rich tributes to late human rights activist and founder of Bones and Joints Hospital Srinagar Prof Farooq A Ashai at a function held at medical college here.

Prof Farooq A Ashai was killed by CRPF on 18th February in 1993 allegedly for his human rights activities when he was returning to his home in his car.

The participants in the gathering highlighted the contribution of Ashai towards health sector and Kashmiri society.

The speakers while reiterating his contribution said that “we should not forget the human patriot of the soil”.

The participants while paying rich tributes to the departed soul blamed the government for denying the justice to family “as the culprit are roaming free”.

The students demanded that the best graduate and best post graduate student award of the college be named after Prof Farooq A Ashai.
