SRINAGAR: Secretary Tourism, Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, stated on Monday that preparations are underway for the upcoming annual Amarnath Yatra in Jammu & Kashmir. He emphasized that providing better facilities to the pilgrims is the top priority for the Tourism department.

Speaking to reporters at a function in Basohli, Kathua district, the Secretary of Tourism confirmed that all arrangements are being made for the two-month-long Amarnath Yatra. He mentioned that the Tourism Directorate will ensure improved facilities for the people, including base camps, langar (community kitchen), and other areas. Enhancing the pilgrims’ experience is the primary focus for the directorate.

Regarding the recently held G-20 event in Srinagar, Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah highlighted that it was the first time such a large-scale event took place in J&K. He informed the media that 40 different countries participated in the event, which showcased J&K to the world. The Secretary of Tourism expressed satisfaction with the warm response received from the participants, stating that they returned as true ambassadors of J&K.

Furthermore, the Secretary of Tourism announced that Basohli has been selected by the central government under the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme. He mentioned that the area will soon emerge as a major tourist attraction, contributing to the local economy. The Secretary urged the local community to cooperate with the government in this initiative.(KNO)
