Army Major who was injured in a gunfight between government forces and militants in Achabal area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district has succumbed to his injuries, ANI reported.
An official said that an army officer identified as Rahul Verma was killed and two other personnel sustained injuries during the fresh exchange of gunfight in Bidoora village.
“Army Major injured in an encounter between security forces and terrorists in Anantnag has succumbed to his injuries. The injured soldier is undergoing treatment (sic),” ANI tweeted.
Earlier, a militant was killed by the contingents of forces including army’s 19 RR and SOG of J&K police during the encounter and the firing was stopped for some time.
Meanwhile, reports said that the injured soldiers are being treated in a local hospital.
