Grenade

Militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen Saturday claimed the responsibility of grenade attack on Indian Army in South Kashmir’s Bijbehara town.

Hizb Operational Spokesperson Burhanuddin told Srinagar based news gathering agency CNS that militants from outfit lobbed a grenade at Army personnel that left many “either injured or dead”. “Operational Field Commander has congratulated the boys (militants) for this attack and has directed them to intensify attacks on Indian Security Establishment,” the spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, a police official said that two Army personnel and a civilian were injured in the attack. “Militants lobbed a grenade over security personnel near Sub-District Hospital Bijbehara resulting in the minor injuries of two security men. A civilian was also injured in the attack,” he said and identified the injured civilian as Farooq Ahmed Dar of Dopatyar Bijbehara.

Reports said that shortly after the grenade attack, the government forces resorted to aerial firing that created panic in the area. However, militants did not retaliate and fled from the spot.
