The Jammu and Kashmir police have issued a statement regarding an encounter in Bagender Bejbehara.
The spokesman said that on a credible input a cordon and search operation was launched at Bagender Mohalla Bijbehara area in District Anantnag, by Police and security forces.
During searches, militants fired upon the search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter.
In the ensuing encounter, two militants were killed and the bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. Their identities and affiliations are being ascertained. Further search in the area is going on.
Incriminating material including arms and ammunition was recovered from the site of encounter, the spokesman said.
Police have requested the people not to venture inside the encounter zone since such area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials if any.
