Srinagar

Train services were suspended for “security reasons” in south Kashmir, following the killing of six militants in a gunfight with the government forces in Bijbehara area of Islamabad district in the wee hours on Friday.

“We have suspended train services in the south Kashmir following fresh advisory from police this morning,” a senior railway official told Kashmir Life.

He said all trains from Srinagar to Islamabad, Qazigund in south Kashmir and Banihal in Jammu region have been suspended for “security reasons”.

However, train service from Srinagar-Budgam in the central Kashmir to Baramulla in north will not be affected, he added.

He said the decision to suspend all train runs on Srinagar-Banihal track was taken for the security of passengers and railway property.
