SRINAGAR: The government has made Biometric Aadhaar Authentication mandatory for domestic LPG consumers seeking subsidised refills at the regulated Retail Selling Price (RSP) from October 1, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said on Saturday.
The Ministry said consumers must complete the authentication process to continue booking subsidised domestic LPG refills at the applicable RSP.
It said the measure is aimed at ensuring that subsidised LPG reaches genuine and eligible households and preventing the diversion of subsidised domestic cylinders for commercial and industrial use.
According to the Ministry, linking each LPG connection with an Aadhaar-authenticated consumer will also help eliminate duplicate and ineligible connections and make subsidy delivery more transparent and targeted.
The Ministry clarified that the requirement is not intended to deny LPG to genuine households and said eligible consumers have several options to complete the authentication.
Authentication can be completed during LPG delivery, at the distributor’s showroom or through the mobile applications of Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs).
The Ministry said 27.43 crore LPG consumers have already completed Biometric Aadhaar Authentication and do not need to take any further action.
