SRINAGAR: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators on Tuesday walked out of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, opposing the Speaker’s decision to permit discussion on the resolution seeking restoration of statehood.
The BJP members objected to references in the resolution to the 2000 autonomy resolution and the 2024 resolution concerning Jammu and Kashmir’s special status.
Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma raised the matter in the House and sought the removal of Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather before the BJP members staged the walkout.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had moved the statehood resolution, which was passed by the Assembly on Monday amid protests and objections from BJP legislators.
