Poll results of legislative council have indicated Bhartiya Janta Party’s (BJP) dwindling ground in Jammu.

The party has been pushed to No. 3 slot in the region by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in recently held council elections.

Out of total 15628 polled votes cast in two constituencies of Jammu, BJP managed only 1201 votes in J-1 constituency out of 14874 polled votes, while in J-2 constituency out of 14812 polled votes, BJP got 1621.

In J-1 constituency, PDP managed 2089 and 2153 votes J-2.

BJP achieved a landslide victory by winning 11 seats in the state legislative assembly in wake of an economic blockade it enforced on rest of J&K during 2008 Amarnath land row. It soon, exhibited its fall as seven of its members were suspended by the party for helping coalition win in the legislative council poll;s in 2011.

This has led to dismal performance in legislative council elections in its strong hold in Jammu region.

In this election, BJP has fielded candidates for three seats – two in the Jammu region and one in Kashmir. But it was nowhere in reckoning in the final tally.
